Cómo es una película de Woody Allen? El crítico de cine Anthony Oliver Scott es dueño de una definición muy puntual: “Salen cada 15 meses con su ya familiar apertura en letras blancas sobre negro, presentando el reparto en orden alfabético, acompañándose con el ruido cadencioso del jazz de otros tiempos”.
El álbum de dos discos que acaba de salir, Woody Allen et la musique, es un recordatorio magnífico de la mayoría de esas bandas sonoras. Primordialmente se oye jazz, por supuesto, y casi nunca es contemporáneo. Alegran el oído las orquestas de Duke Ellington y Glenn Miller. Pero también cantan voces inmortales del cine, como Fred Astaire y Carmen Miranda. Y gracias a un par de arias del tenor Enrico Caruso se evidencia, además, un conocimiento de la ópera que el director utiliza cuando quiere explorar lo dramático en sus películas.
En cuanto al jazz, quizá no sea para sorprenderse que abundan los solos de clarinete: sabemos que Allen conoce el instrumento.
